Not everyone’s experience with their mothers is positive. Not everyone‘s experience with their children is magical and wonderful. Just like life, motherhood is hard. It takes from you, it’s inconvenient, sometimes it’s embarrassing and humiliating, and always it’s exhausting! But usually… the good outshines the bad and the joyful moments easily erase the difficult times.

I think motherhood requires us to “do the work” on ourselves so that we can give the best to our children. Our mothers can certainly wreck us AND our children can break our hearts, so learning to leave selfishness behind is so important.

Moms, we have to lead the way here! When we pursue the path of love, and in the case of mothers, unconditional love, it all seems to flow better. Less drama and heartache, and more peace. My mom always taught me that someone had to be the bigger person, so why not let it start with me?

For me, learning to think and act less selfishly and getting out of my own head helped me not only be a better human being as I went through difficult times with my children but, it also taught me to be a better mother. It taught me the real value of life and living in the moments we are given. And now that I have grandchildren, it’s all about living in the moment!

A little heavy for Mother’s Day? Maybe, but it’s true and it’s real. Being a mom is hard just like being a child is hard. We have to embrace and accept where we find ourselves and learn to deal within those situations with grace and real love. And if we commit to love and are willing to do the work, we will overcome the obstacles and carry on!

And that my friends is what motherhood is according to my experiences, I would love to hear about yours!! …. Happy Mother’s Day to all. 殺朗

I am a mother. I have a mother. I have raised a mother. Mother’s are not to be overlooked, or […]

I am a mother. I have a mother. I have raised a mother. Mother’s are not to be overlooked, or taken for granted. Motherhood is a sacred role that should be celebrated (as it is) and revered, taught and honored.

As a mother I celebrate myself

I raised two incredible humans. Our path was unusual and hard. The effects of divorce were substantial, far reaching and painful as much for them as it was for me. The mother spirit that was with me when I gave birth has only grown stronger through the years. And most importantly, the pursuit of my love has been never ending; leading us into the relationships that we share today as strong and loving individuals. I am proud to be a mother and I celebrate the strength and wisdom that I have gained through the challenges and the triumphs – and the joys – of raising my son and daughter.

I celebrate my daughter as a mother

When raising my daughter it was important to me to give her the example of motherhood that I wanted her to give to my grandchildren. The intimacy of our close relationship throughout her life built a foundation of trust and respect through sharing and non-judgmental acceptance. Today I see these qualities coming into fruition in my daughter as she raises her new baby. The patience and love, present awareness and tenderness she exhibits is a jewel in my crown as a mom. I really couldn’t be more proud of her.

As a daughter I celebrate my mother

Underlying my motherhood and my daughters, is the tapestry of wisdom, unconditional love, and strength of my mother. As in most families, and with all mothers, throughout life there are circumstances that mark your maturity, and situations that have the power to make you or break you. Mom has endured in grace, embraced the good and the bad, and has lived through hell and came back with a faith that is unbreakable. Her example of unconditional love and faithfulness has marked my life and continues to inspire me today as a mother and grandmother. She is a queen among women, a force to be reckoned with.

Mothers everywhere I celebrate you

I encourage you mothers to stay focused on your role as a mom. To realize that there is nothing more important than the task at hand to raise your children, and to do it in love and with patience. It is the diversity of women across the world and how they lovingly give and accomplish this task that is indeed the beauty of motherhood. Happy Mother’s Day to all!

Mom’s beauty and style tips
Our mother’s influence us in so many ways. If you look in my refrigerator or my makeup case, it is likely you will see similar products to the ones my mom uses. Some things never get away from us. My mom is 85 years young and so beautiful and full of life and love. One of the images I will always have is of her sitting at her vanity in her bathroom carefully putting on her makeup and doing her hair. She is such a girly girl and style icon. She taught me how to wear my makeup and stressed the importance of natural beauty, never overdoing it, and modesty. My most memorable tip from her is about taking care of my skin. She always taught me that no matter what age, I should NEVER go without eye cream and face moisturizer – when I was 15 she marched me down to the Clinque makeup counter at John A Brown’s in Oklahoma City and bought my first beauty ritual.
Let’s have some fun today, ask your mom if you’re not sure, and if you know what your mom’s “secret sauce” is, share it!! We need to know… and Happy Mother’s Day to all the mother’s out there!
XOXOXO
Sandy
