What Can Be
In another time I could have been a dancer
Dancing to the rhythm of my soul
Or perhaps an actor playing out the scenes
Of the crazy stories I have told
I could have been a singer
On stage with a thousand lights at my feet
Or an artist moving heart and soul
With a Delacroix’s heated beat
Yet hidden underneath this canvas
You’ll find familiar places
Held in secret
Smiling faces
They are all like rhymes to me
Not to be seen or sung
Simply just to be
Discovered undercover
Understood and undone
The artist’s mind creates these things
Through time they hold the mystery
Of what can be to fix your vision
On what you want
for your illusion
Or simple yet
An easier bet
To live this life without regret
